Zevalin At Work

May 22, 2007
I want to follow-through with my promise to keep people up-to-date with my health situation. But first, and most importantly, I want to say thank you to each and every one of you that have continued to offer me encouragement during the past several months. Don’t ever forget how powerful your words of encouragement are. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Now let me share the latest news from my doctor.

I received the Zevalin treatment on April 18, and then had to wait until May 16, to see my doctor. It seemed like an eternity between those two dates and I must say I was very excited to see Dr. Skikne and his staff again. This visit was fairly routine: Doc reviewed the results of the weekly blood tests I had started on May 2, and told me my blood platelets are dropping as expected.

Next, he explained that my counts aren’t dangerously low and he carefully explained what I need to watch out for during this time. Next, Doc explained the low energy levels I am dealing with right now are normal for the treatment regimen I have just finished. He also reminded me that I should expect that side effect to last for approximately three months (I’m glad one month has already past!). I was told to keep doing what I am doing to manage my energy levels and to rest when I need to. But the news I was most excited about was the fact that he stretched out the interval between my blood tests from one to two weeks. Overall, it was a good checkup!

For now I am simply waiting on August to get here so I can get the scans done then see Doc for the results. That is approximately 90 days out so all I have to do is get the biweekly blood tests until my counts are back to normal, think positive, and take care of myself as best I can. I would also like to ask you for your continued thoughts and prayers for both my wife Debbie and me. I have faith that it won’t be long until I get to hear those wonderful words again!
