Love Matters

Love is something very special. Too many people get hung-up on physical attraction and not true love.

When someone truly loves another person they will give their life to protect them. For example I have been married to my beautiful bride over thirty-eight years (Yes, we were high school sweethearts!). If anything were to threaten her safety I wouldn’t even think about getting between her and whatever it was that threatened her. I would muster everything I had available to protect her.

Not too many years ago it was prevalent for people to fall in love, get married, and remain married until death separated them. I bet they had a different outlook on love than many people do today. They stood the test of time and supported each other no matter what came their way.

I believe that love is the foundation for everything that is important. Without love nothing matters.

When I read my Bible I learn about many different aspects of love. A scripture that really speaks to me is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

This important list of things that are important to love covers a lot of areas in a person’s life. They are all difficult to manage, but I believe that “perseveres” is perhaps the most difficult one for me.
